The server opted to lose a grand total of about $ 12 on the check because she insisted on being obstinate. I even said I’d settle for just some lettuce and tomato on a plate with no dressing AND PAY FOR an entire garden salad which would have been slightly more labor intensive.

Honestly, this is a problem that would have taken literally seconds to solve with absolutely no need to escalate. The manager allegedly sent word back with the server that he was «too busy» to deal with the situation. I asked to speak to a manager and was denied the privilege. I’m not a fan of omelets or of greasy grilled, diced veggies so I thought, for sure, a salad would be an easier accommodation. It was a reasonable compromise considering I got the equivalent of an omelet (just deconstructed - scrambled eggs and veggies). Last year on Christmas Eve I was served a side of veggies with my eggs and charged for an omelet instead of just scrambled eggs. This is an accommodation that has been made for me innumerable times in other restaurants but this server was DETERMINED to stand her ground. I also made it clear that a vegetable was a dietary necessity and that if she chose not to accommodate the request I would not be able to eat there. I had already ordered the rest of my meal so our server knew that that I was willing to spend some money (and more than average, I might add, since I usually have to order breakfast a la carte) to get the meal I needed. They were closing early today but the produce was definitely onsite.

Bear in mind that this place is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they have a number of salads on their menu. I ordered a garden salad and was told I couldn’t have it because they were serving breakfast. This breakfast was supposed to be a rare treat since I don’t often eat carbs and certainly not that early in the day. As I told the server, this isn’t a weird personal preference, it is part of a dietary regimen that has helped me lose almost 200 pounds over the past year and a half. I have some very specific but easy-to-accommodate dietary needs, one of which is having a balance of protein and vegetable with each meal. Today, however, was the final nail in the coffin. There have been LOTS of exchanges like that with the waitstaff here.

A patron at the next table overheard the conversation and handed me two. Just for the sake of example, I once asked for a pack of strawberry jelly and was told by the server that she «didn’t have the time» to find me one. They clearly don’t care if you have a good experience (they don’t even ask «How was everything?» when you cash out). They speak to their patrons like we’re dogs and flatly refuse to do anything remotely proactive to satisfy the customer. I could deal with a little apathy but they take it too far. In fact, there are several older female servers who exude more than a little bit of an «I’ve been at this too long» attitude. My son and I have had the tradition of having breakfast at The Lucky Strike in Chicopee, MA on Christmas Eve for the last four years running and I have patronized them for breakfast on a number of occasions previous.
